TAC Welcomes New Managing Editor & Senior Editor

Matt Purple moves up to Senior Editor & Arthur Bloom joins as Managing Editor

TAC Executive Director and Acting Editor, Johnny Burtka, announced two major personnel moves in the TAC editorial operation this morning. Matt Purple will move up to fill one of the magazine’s Senior Editor slots (along with Rod Dreher & Daniel Larison), while Arthur Bloom, most recently deputy editor at The Daily Caller, will become the magazine’s new Managing Editor.

In making the announcement, Burtka said, “With these moves I am confident that TAC is positioned better than ever before to become the country’s preeminent conservative magazine. Both Matt & Arthur are deeply committed to our mission of advancing a main street vision for conservatism, and I am eager to see TAC’s editorial content and influence grow under their leadership.”

Matt joined TAC in October of 2017 as managing editor where he played a pivotal role in cultivating a new bench of writers, growing our web traffic, and writing for the print and web edition. In his new role as senior editor, Matt will devote more time to writing and media appearances while overseeing the magazine’s crony capitalism initiative, which includes both editorial content and an annual conference in Washington, D.C.

Arthur is an alumnus of TAC where he served as Associate Editor from 2012 – 2013. He comes to TAC from the Daily Caller, where he built out a new paywall program as deputy editor and edited an opinion section at the Daily Caller News Foundation called American Renewal. He was also a columnist for the Catholic Herald. He holds masters degrees in urban planning and American studies from the University of Kansas. His work has appeared in The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Spectator (UK), The Guardian, Quillette, The American Spectator, Modern Age, and Tiny Mix Tapes. You can follow him on Twitter at @j_arthur_bloom

In his new role, Arthur will work with closely TAC’s executive editors, Kelley Vlahos & Lewis McCrary, to produce timely and provocative web content exploring the foundations of conservative thought and its relevance for the most pressing issues our day. He will also write for the print and web publication and assist TAC in launching a series of podcasts over the coming year.
