To Be Orthodox In The South

George Morris of the Baton Rouge Advocate did a wonderful story on our little Orthodox mission parish in Starhill, Louisiana. Here’s what our priest, Father Matthew Harrington, who moved here last November with his family from Walla Walla, Washington, says in the story:
“In the Northwest, I would walk around and I might get, ‘What are you supposed to be? Well, I’m spiritual and not religious, and I don’t need what you’re selling,’ even though I was just buying eggs and milk at the grocery store,” he said. “Down here, it’s, ‘Oh, you’re a priest, you’re a father. What’s your reading on this?’ The dialogue is so easy, because people are formed reading the Scriptures. ”
Yes! Come worship with us at St. John Mission. We are poor and we are few, but man, it’s something else. And our priest can preach, I tell you what!
