Remember the Squad?

The bright lights of 2019 have dimmed fast and it's likely their own fault.

Remember ‘The Squad’ ?

Last summer they had captivated headlines and were responsible for whipping up a political storm on Capitol Hill—over Israel, Green New Deal, and ‘f-ck’ President Trump. The Progressive Wing, led by AOC and Reps. Tlaib, Omar and others, relentlessly pushed for impeachment and forced Speaker Nancy Pelosi into a corner. We all sensed that Pelosi had no interest in taking the impeachment as far as it went but when she took over she put it in the (in)capable hands of Reps. Schiff and Nadler and left the Squad off-camera and throwing ineffective spit balls from the side lines.

How times have changed. The Democratic establishment, sensing that the progressives led them down a primrose path with impeachment, and that the rest of the country isn’t quite ready for their more radical proscriptions, weren’t about to let the 2020 election slip away, too. Now it looks like the progressives, represented by Elizabeth Warren, and more especially, Bernie Sanders (for whom AOC was actively campaigning) are in their last throes on the campaign trail.

Those last images of Bernie with AOC during recent rallies burns in one’s mind as probably the most vivid symbol of his failure to connect with the people he needed to bring over, next to his response to what is now being called “the Cuban question.”

The establishment has spoken.
