I just started in on Gene Healy’s The Cult of the Presidency, which I strongly recommend.  Gene, a friend from college who now a senior editor at Cato, describes and critiques the American myth of the President as the nation’s conscience, spiritual leader, and nanny.  He has kind words to sayabout Harding and Coolidge, and appropriately harsh words for Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt.  I hope to have a review of it up somewhere soon.
