Walker Percy Weekend Video

Just released. Watch this, and get a first-hand look at what the Walker Percy Weekend festival is all about.

I’d like to point out that the screenshot below captures the only known image of our friend Franklin Evans (foreground), and Jason Kenney, [1] leader of the Conservative Party of Alberta (blurry, in the background). Walker Percy Weekend [2]attracts all kinds of folks. I hope you’re one of them this year. The 2018 festival is going to be on June 1-2. Tickets aren’t yet on sale. Watch this space, and I’ll tell you when they are. [UPDATE: Tickets available on the WPW site starting February 1 [2]]

UPDATE: Here’s the reason for the WPW — and a glimpse at what a Jewish immigrant gave to a small Southern town:

Warm memories to take me briefly out of a cold January. Hope to see everyone again this year.

Wonderful videos and an interesting but highly successful Walter Percy Weekend festival. I doff my hat to the event organizers who have been running this festival. From the video, it would appear that this particular event sheds a light on that community and Louisiana at large.

The structure being restored, Louisiana’s first public school, looks like an architectural wonder and it should always be an exciting prospect to establish a vibrant cultural arts center. I, for one, look forward to hearing more about this project as it unfolds utilizing local talent in the fine arts in its various forms.

Thank you.

This event, and the place where it occurs, is recommended to all in the most sincere terms. It is worth attending just for its content, but especially so for the simple fact that it is a family gathering.

Family is everything.

I’ve always liked Jason Kenney, but this raises my respect for him up a couple more notches.

He was also a high-powered federal cabinet minister under the Harper Conservatives, and a rumoured successor to Harper (although he was probably wise to return to Alberta, especially for now).

Man, I think I’ve said this before…but you should have gone into radio. Great voice.

[NFR: That’s very kind, and I’m actually shocked to hear you say it. I really *hate* my voice. No kidding, I cannot stand to hear myself speak. Sounds way too nasal and high-pitched. — RD]

I had s great time two years ago. Still sorry I had to cancel last year; as you know, I’d bought tickets but then my department asked me at virtually the last minute to take students to Italy in June (poor me!). I hope to be able to come this year.

BTW, Rod — since you’re under a different Orthodox jurisdiction now, than when you were at St. John’s, are you back on the Gregorian calendar? Or are you celebrating Christmas today?

[NFR: Back on the New Calendar. I took down our tree today. The poor living room looks bare without it. — RD]
