Some friends cooked us a beautiful, soul-nourishing dinner for our tenth anniversary. Homemade eggplant parmigiana and caprese salad. Lots of red wine. Contented sighs all night.

This reader and her husband are good friends of ours. They went to France this summer, and sent us a care package that included two jars of Christine Ferber confiture, and a jar of walnut mustard. I knew I would love the confiture — Ferber is the best in the world — but what a revelation the walnut mustard is! Next time I go to France, I’m going to take an empty suitcase for nothing but food. Walnut mustard — who ever thought?! But it is crazy delicious.
