My laptop is still in the shop, so I’m having to work on an old desktop computer this morning. There’s a photo file on the desktop that I haven’t seen in ages. I was surprised and pleased to discover in it the photo I post above. It’s a shot of my sister Ruthie’s three daughters at their mother’s wake. This was late in the day, as I recall, and one of the girls had the idea that taking their shoes off would be a fitting tribute to their mother, who never, ever missed an opportunity to go barefoot, and to feel the grass between her toes.

Finding this pic reminded me to tell you Dallas area readers that I will be in town next week to give a talk about The Little Way Of Ruthie Leming and the life of faith. It will be at the Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Here are the details. Plus:

library_-_rod_dreher_-_calendarThe talk is free and open to the public, but you need to register in advance if you want to have lunch (which is also free). I’ll be around after the talk to sign books and say hello. Please come out! I know I have a number of Dallas-area readers; it would be neat if y’all could meet each other. I had thought about having a meet-up at The Old Monk, but I won’t be in town long enough, unfortunately.
