The reader writes: Chinese hot pot, or da bin lo (打邊爐).  A collection of meats, vegetables, and other dishes (in this case, thinly sliced beef, salmon, mussels, clams, fish cakes, fish balls, greens, tofu, and pasta) cooked in broth, at the table.  Always an excellent choice for a cold evening.  Or any evening, actually.
