That’s our mission parish’s priest, Father Matthew Harrington, a Yankee (though he got here as fast as he could!) getting ready for his first crawfish boil, at church today. Happy Feast of the Annunciation, you Old Calendar people! Laissez les bons temps rouler!

My nine year old Lucas whispered to me today during liturgy: “Did he say to pray for the Russian Church of Rod?!”

“No, he said, ‘the Russian Church Abroad.'”

Funny to imagine the Russian Church of Rod. That ain’t a headdress on that Cossack, that’s just how his hair does.

I don’t want to embarrass him by saying so, but Father Matthew sure can preach a good sermon. They make me want to be a better Christian, and a better man. After Pre-Sanctified liturgy the other night, Father Matthew recounted all the many things well-wishers have donated to our little mission, St. John the Theologian, and how good people have been to us. We really have a church! We even have a family that’s going to be received into Orthodoxy this Lent. Today one of our Starhill friends came to church with us. It’s good here!
