Just got a call from a sleep medicine center to schedule an appointment for evaluation. This is the result of my visit to an allergist yesterday, in hopes of determining why I have chronic episodes of fatigue. The scratch test revealed that I’m allergic to … nothing at all. There must be something else going on. The doc ordered some blood tests to check thyroid and autoimmune response — I feel confident it must be an autoimmune condition, given my Raynaud’s diagnosis, and given that these attacks of fatigue are always preceded by a Raynaud’s episode. But we’ll see.

She’s also sending me for a sleep evaluation, to foreclose the possibility that I have sleep apnea, and that it’s being masked by my use of Ambien to sleep. (I hate the stuff now, but when I don’t use it, I can’t sleep. Don’t start using it unless you absolutely have to.) I don’t think this is what it will turn out to be, but hey, what do I know?

It turns out that sleep medicine is a $32 billion a year business. Did you know this? I did not know this.
