Pity Cherie Blair, the demented wife of the former British prime minister. She is always giving people new reasons to dislike her. The latest Cherie gaffe was telling Vanity Fair that her Tony’s achievements in office put him “up there with Churchill.” The Daily Mail, Britain’s angriest newspaper, is apoplectic.

I suppose, though, that if you take the Pat Buchanan line, Tony Blair and Churchill are not so far apart, having both launched unnecessary wars.

Regardless, poor old Cherie should really learn to pipe down, even if she is plugging the U.S. launch of her autobiography. This is a woman, after all, who reveals in her book that her last child was conceived because she forgot to pack her “contraceptive equipment” for a visit to the Queen at Balmoral. Lovely.
