If you’re ever on Martha’s Vineyard, you have to visit Larsen’s Fish Market in the tiny town of Menemsha. In addition to selling fresh salmon, scallops, oysters, clams, and shrimp the size of your hand, Larsen’s sells the best freshly-caught lobster on the island. You can call ahead to place your order, or just show up at the kitchen window and they’ll boil the lobsters on the spot. I ordered two 1-1/4 pounders, which came with drawn butter. You can order your lobsters “to go,” or, for an extra dollar, they’ll crack them for you, and serve them paper plates so you can take your meal down to the beach, or better yet, eat at the handful of overturned crab nets they’ve set up as make-shift tables behind the restaurant overlooking the fishing boats docked in the marina. I was there today, and in addition to the lobsters, ordered a cup of lobster bisque and a cup of clam chowder. Simple food, served simply. One of the best meals I’ve had all week.
