Pompeo averred that the duty of the CIA is to "lie, cheat and steal." Whelan was said to have been dismissed from the Marine Corps for felony convictions. He was carrying $80,000 in cash yet claims he was set up in a sting for espionage he wasn't guilty of. Was the dismissal from the Corps genuine or a deception for the benefit of Russia's FSB? Why is Whelan now being portrayed as an innocent American Marine without the criminal convictions that had him dismissed from that service, though he also holds passports from three foreign countries? What is the full story here? We have a story here, but is it the story?

    The description you give of Whelan makes me think him a man of spirit. I would trade him in a swap ANY DAY OF THE WEEK over this intersectional stoner who, like, man you know, like has weed on her in Des Moines, so, like, how was she to know they weren't you know cool with it like in Russia? a "star" in a sport nobody cares about and nobody watches (until we have to, just wait).

    Did you see the WaPo headlines yesterday? "Britney Grines Lands in San Antonio", as who should say, "Son of Man Appears in Clouds of Glory to Judge the Living and the Dead". Pah.

The swap deal originally offered by Washington included both Whelan and Griner, but the Russian government refused to release Whelan. This is not about US culture wars at all, except as Putin wishes to stir that pot and gin up dissension. Don't play his game.

I'm sympathetic to the basic complaint about the *possible* reasons why Griner was chosen over Whelan. But this woman is basically just ranting. "American voters" did not make this decision. And the assumption that American voters believe Whelan is in fact a spy and therefore a hero is just baloney. I feel pretty sure most Americans who hear of this story at all would be at least initially inclined to believe that he is innocent and a victim of Evil Russians.

    Our national security state is being outed now as having thoroughly infiltrated both social media corporations and corporate media in a massive censorship and influence operation. The purpose is to manufacture public opinion in line with elite policy objectives without serious discussion. So it's not surprising that folks who don't delve deeper into the facts echo what they are fed by big media propagandists and censors.
