Jennifer Rubin recounts Santorum’s RJC speech:

He slammed the president for being inactive when the real Arab Spring began in Iran in 2009 [italics original].

Ah, yes, the “real Arab Spring” in 2009, which was all the more remarkable for not having any Arabs in it. Did Santorum actually say this? He has a record of making some odd comments on foreign affairs, but he couldn’t have made a mistake this basic, could he? Yes, he could. He said, “[W]e see an Arab Spring that should have been a real Arab Spring starting in 2009 with the protests in Iran.” Not surprisingly, Rubin reproduced what Santorum said without any objection or correction. There was nothing that the U.S. could have done in Iran to help the Green movement, and the Green movement didn’t want outside help anyway.
