Somehow, I got to the age of 46 without ever having seen An American In Paris. I rectified that error tonight. The whole family watched it, and it was exhilarating. I cannot imagine a more pure cinematic expression of joy than Gene Kelly in this film, except possibly Gene Kelly in Singin’ In The RainDamn, that guy was some kind of genius. That guy was America.
