Maybe you don’t have time to do this right now, but I swear, if you are even the tiniest bit of a Francophile, and you sit down and watch the above episode of Anthony Bourdain’s old “No Reservations” show, in which he visits Burgundy, you will have seen a dispatch from the Promised Land, indeed a glimpse of the Beatific Vision.

I cannot think that I’ve ever seen an episode of a food program — not of “No Reservations,” not of any show — that brought me such joy. If you don’t have time to watch the entire program, just fast-forward to just past the 30-minute mark, and watch the dinner they have at Chef Marc Meneau’s in Vézelay — especially the oyster.

Starting today, I am saving my pennies for a trip to Burgundy. I will turn 50 in less than four years. That will be how Julie and I will celebrate my half-century: Burgundy. No doubt about it.

Sadly, the region was hit by terrible hailstorms this summer, which wiped out most of the grapes. It will be a terrible harvest in Burgundy this year.
