As everyone expected, the DPJ won a resounding victory in Japan’s parliamentary elections. Here is my column for The Week on what this means for modifying the U.S.-Japan alliance. Obviously, I disagree with Kissel’s assessment of the foreign policy implications of the DPJ win, and it doesn’t make much sense to refer to any major Japanese politician as an anticapitalist.
