James Stevens Curl

Professor James Stevens Curl is an architectural historian with many substantial scholarly books to his name, including English Victorian Churches: Architecture, Faith, & Revival (London: John Hudson Publishing, 2022); Making Dystopia: The Strange Rise and Survival of Architectural Barbarism (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2019); Classical Architecture (New York: W.W. Norton & Co., 2003); and (with Susan Wilson) Oxford Dictionary of Architecture (2015, 2016). He is a member of the Royal Irish Academy, a Fellow of the Societies of Antiquaries of London and of Scotland, a Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, and the recipient of The President’s Medal of The British Academy for “outstanding services to the cause of the humanities” in recognition of his “contribution to the wider study of the History of Architecture in Britain and Ireland,” 2017.
