It is being reported that, at a fundraiser in San Francisco, Obama dismissed small town Americans as “bitter,” claiming that “they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”  In one sentence, Obama both demeans millions of Americans and dismisses their religious faith, cultural traditions, and political opinions.

After losing to the likes of George W. Bush, puzzled Democrats asked, “What’s the Matter with Kansas?”  Obama’s most recent gaffe shows, once again, that there’s nothing wrong with Kansas.   Kansas knows exactly what Barack Obama and his fans in San Francisco think of Kansas, and Kansas votes accordingly.

It is very unfortunate, of course, that a neocon-dominated Republican Party is the beneficiary of this.  But until Democrats cease advertising their alienation from Middle America on a regular basis, Democrats will keep losing elections.
