Remember the Seattle crackpot who married a building? Now she claims to be engaged to a neighborhood. :
Now, Aivaz has informed the Seattle City Council she’ll be marrying the Yesler Terrace neighborhood near the Central District. She is, after all, widowed now that her beloved warehouse has been demolished.
I knew it. You let a girl marry a warehouse, and next thing you know, she’s a damn polygamist. A whole neighborhood! Tramp.

David J. White says: Combine this with the bill in California that will allow a child to have an unlimited number of legal parents, and I guess it really does take a village to raise a child!
Besides, serves her right for marrying a warehouse. She should have held out for a brownstone, at least.

K. W. Jeter says: Does the neighborhood get to say anything about it? Did everybody living in the neighborhood give their consent to this? Even if she’s just marrying the physical buildings in the neighborhood, if I own one of those buildings, wouldn’t I have to agree to this?
Patrick Bardamu says: Normally when I ask supporters of gay marriage why exactly they are against polygamy I try to point out that I am making a more serious argument than the people who say “Gay marriage will lead to people marrying animals/inanimate objects!” are. I would now like to apologize to that latter group of people. What I imagined was hyperbole turns out to have been tamer than the reality, where people marry buildings.

It’s exactly this kind of bigotry that forces people who just want to spend their life with a building of their choice to live a lie. Why do we despise their love?

This is significant only if she eventually sues for divorce and requests alimony. In that case there will be an issue of consent, even if consummation of the marriage is not a question of legal standing.
I don’t believe she is a polygamist. She intends to marry the neighborhood, as a singular entity, not each individual person or building within it.

She’s an anti-gentrification activist and this is one of her means of protest:
Aivaz, who showed up to the council meeting late, said she couldn’t wait for public comment, and instead entered the gated area where members were seated to invite them to her wedding by passing out flowers, and then yelling that housing should be for people, not for profit.
“This is the only thing I have left from the last building I married,” she said as she held up a brick from the 10th and Union Warehouse. “I cannot let it happen again.”
Held back by security guards, Aivaz eventually left the meeting, but was shortly after greeted by police outside.
“I just feel that justice has to happen now and I couldn’t wait,” she told police.

I guess we’ll never understand the love she shares.
