We’re nearing the end of our online fundraising drive, but we’re still a little more than $5,000 short our goal. As the progress bar fills up, it’s easy for readers to think that the effort is going so well that their help is not essential. But it is essential — the last portion is by far the hardest to raise, and although it might not seem like a lot of money (it’s not, when divided up among scores or hundreds of donors) the shortfall would be enough to put  serious dent in our operations. It’s the equivalent of a full issue of print magazine content, or more than four weeks of web content.
