When 73 percent of Americans tell pollsters that they believe the country is on the wrong track (as opposed to 15 percent who say it’s going in the right direction), it becomes close to impossible for a candidate associated with the current status-quo as John McCain is, to win a presidential election, whether he is running against Barack Obama or Mickey Mouse. I’m aware that the same polls indicate that the race is tight, but my guess is that McCain’s numbers will start going down, and that Bittergate, Pastorgate and Obama=Osama are not going to make a big difference.

My only concern is that the Republicans could bring up the issues of Mickey’s ties to Hamas or his romantic involvement with Dopey. Polls suggest that white and overweight black-collar voters between the ages of 25 and 55 regard Snow-White and her vertically challenged assistants as too elitist and out-of-touch with the problems of ordinary Americans.
