Conservatives on this side of the Atlantic might take some vicarious comfort in the recent electoral successes of Britain’s Tories, who surged ahead of Labour in last week’s council races and, best of all, elected the estimable Boris Johnson as mayor of London in place of “Red Ken” Livingston. (Johnson is a Tory of the old school, and an anti-Iraq War conservative to boot.) TAC‘s Freddy Gray has the lowdown over at the American Spectator‘s website. If Johnson and not the Conservatives’ Blair-like parliamentary leader, David Cameron, is the wave of his party’s future, there’ll be much cause to celebrate.
