Obviously Joe Biden isn’t the only public figure whose junior-high memories of Chief Executives are in a hopeless tangle. Andrew Roberts, whose “Bush as Truman” idée-fixe — shades of Fidel Castro’s “History will absolve me” riff — scored a mention on this site last week by Freddy Gray, would have us believe that Warren Harding was “the disastrous president of the Great Depression.” And here the rest of us were, thinking that Harding died six years before the Wall Street crash…

Which, we may wonder, is the nastier spectacle? Roberts being malign, or Roberts being just incompetent?
