Will Obama break all his past records for BS tonight when he gives his speech on Libya at 7:30 pm? (Eastern)
He will be speaking to the most servile audience he could find – uniformed military officers at the National Defense University. The room will be full of people who are owned lock, stock, and barrel by the government. The officers have spent their lives working for Uncle Sam, and they know that a single ill-time hoot during Obama’s talk could end their careers.
Obama is following in the footsteps of George W. Bush, who also used the uniformed officers as stage props for his most deceptive foreign policy addresses.
It is unfortunate that there is not a pervasive backlash against this type of exploitation. There no longer seems to be any BS radar regarding presidents and warring.

As “servile” as they might appear, the military is manifestly unhappy about the new war. I’d give them a pass. They get to die for Hilary’s moral fashions; Chelsea does not. The public is about as unenthused with this war as I’ve observed at the beginning of a war. No one is blabbering about “freedom falafels”. The President gave a campaign speech– not about the military campaign but about his never-ended political campaign. He is comfortable running for the office he refuses to occupy. The shot at Bush is about two and half years stale. The defense budget grows on, the wars go on and grow on and the mission is never accomplished . Obama should not be unopposed in the Democratic primaries. Even if “humanitarian” issues prompted the initial intervention, no one should be confident that this war “saved lives” until this war someday ends and all the costs are actually tallied. If Obama supposedly learned from the experience in Iraq, he would be more cautious in his assertions. The day after the speech, the “rebels”(whoever they be) are stalled again. I don’t see a way to end this on the Administration’s terms unless the Administration is willing to rip up the UN Resolution it waves as its legal mandate. And whatever Obama said last night, that’s exactly what he’ll do.The next step will be to recognize a “government” in Benghazi and then have that “government” request as the sovereign government of Libya arms, air support, troops, etc. Obama’s next speech will begin, “at the request of the Libyan government in Benghazi…..
