Turning On The Goppers

I tell you what, I don’t know who knew what when and who is remembering correctly. I know one thing: that e-mail they call an “overly friendly e-mail” that had predator stamped all over it. No one in this country can suggest otherwise. You’re in a leadership position. You have a colleague you know is at least a potential predator and we have the pages coming through his office every day? They had an obligation, that same day, to investigate him further, to call in the FBI, if that was an appropriate action and also to call in those pages and make certain every one of them was interviewed to see if there is any problems here that goes deeper than what they already knew. They failed the parents of this country is what they did. ~Bay Buchanan

In other Foley-related news, La Shawn Barber calls for Haster’s resignation, saying:

Whether or not the leadership saw “lurid” IMs is not quite the point. Members knew about Foley’s “overly friendly” e-mails to 16-year-old boys. From that they could have deduced he was up to no good, in my opinion. They should have investigated Foley’s conduct more thoroughly. That they didn’t know the extent of Foley’s “issues” is BS. I’m sorry, but this CYA stuff is not going to cut it.

Even “Captain” Ed Morrissey is getting in on the Hastert resignation fever.  The Family Research Council, of course, gave its blunt statement, FRC President Tony Perkins writes on the “real” issue in the scandal, and even Judicial Watch has gotten involved.  Also, as noted by one of my readers, Michelle Malkin isn’t buying GOP flacks’ attempts to turn this around on the Democrats.

Update: The Foley woes have managed to touch George Allen’s campaign (did the guy break a mirror recently, or is he just having a really bad year?), when he had to give away money received from Foley.  Another candidate in a closely contested race who had to make donations on account of old Foley cash was my own representative, Heather Wilson (R, NM-1).
