Lieberman just threw in the towel a few minutes ago.  He will be running for the general as an independent, as promised.

The latest numbers (10:17 Central Time): with 96.7% of the precincts reporting in the Connecticut Democratic Senate primary, Lamont has a 3.7% lead (10,232 vote margin) over Lieberman.

Michael Crowley has an interesting item at TNR‘s The Plank: according to FoxNews, Lieberman turnout was weak.  NR‘s Sixers blog was following the race very closely, but now seems to have given up any hope of a Lieberman victory and have now called the election for Lamont.  They are, however, already working on how to spin the defeat.

Hotline has some new information in their latest post.  One interesting item: “DODD TASKED WITH TALKING LIEBERMAN OUT OF INDY RUN”  What the Indy-Lieberman dreamers are forgetting is that with the nomination go all the endorsements, DSCC funding and future fundraising opportunities.  The funding picture will get very different from here on out.
