Gilchrest In Trouble

Wayne Gilchrest, the moderate and antiwar Republican of Maryland’s 1st District, has faced a primary challenge from pro-war opponents, as have other antiwar Republican House members.  These races were detailed in Jim Antle’s TAC piece from July 2007.  Early returns (16% reporting) show Gilchrest trailing challenger Andy Harris by seven points.  In a state that held a GOP primary that backed John McCain with 56% of the vote, it is not exactly an ideal day to be one of the few current antiwar Republicans in office.

Update: With 74% reporting, Gilchrest is trailing by 6.  Harris is the projected winner.
