Another Week, Another Major Romney Foreign Policy Blunder

Here is the Romney campaign’s latest demand (via Keating):

Obama should release the notes and transcripts of all his meetings with world leaders so the American people can be satisfied that he’s not promising to sell out the country’s interests after the election is over.

If it were serious, this would be a demand so touchingly naive that it would make Woodrow Wilson blush. Republicans have to hope that this is just more of Romney’s unwise foreign policy overreaching and demagoguery. They have to hope that this is not the expression of a real desire to publish transcripts of all private presidential meetings with foreign leaders. This is now the second significant foreign policy blunder that the Romney campaign has made in the last week, and the funny thing is that they think they’re winning the argument. If Obama had demanded something like this from the Bush administration, it would have prompted a furious outcry. Obama would have been denounced as a novice completely unprepared to conduct foreign policy. It’s a good thing that the Romney campaign is against “playing politics” with foreign policy, or else we might suspect that the candidate and his campaign are willing to say anything if they think it will help them in the fall.
