Miami Beach, Florida

Watermelon mojito, while I’m just a-prayin’ for my poor old pal Denny Burk, beat up by the winter that won’t quit:

You’d better have taken your wife on this boondoggle trip.

I’m in Chicago. I’ve worn my snow boots today.

It’s been much colder than usual this April. Temperatures in the 30’s, snow flurries. The only answer? Bourbon.

It was 45 degrees and raining today in Seattle–which is usually what it’s like in December.

I was out shoveling ice with a steel spade today. I want my global warming and it want it now!

And that should have said “I want it now!”

It’s snowing here too in Alberta, Canada. It’s not that unusual here in April, but it just won’t quit. It snows, melts a bit, and then starts again. At least the temperature is sitting around 0 Celsius. “Bring on global warming” is what some of us say around here after a long, cold winter like this.

I remember more than one white Easter growing up in Michigan. My niece up in Minnesota posted on Facebook in high dudgeon about their April blizzard recently.
Down here in Baltimore we had summer over the weekend. It lasted all of two days. When I went to bed Saturday night I left the windows in my room open since it was hot in the house. And I woke up Sunday morning freezing. Right now it’s 41 and it will struggle to get to 50.

P.S. Actually, as I’m sure you all know, this IS “global warming.” It’s not that the Earth automatically gets immediately hotter; it’s that the temperature of the Earth goes more and more to extremes.

And with the slowing down of the Atlantic Current (a.k.a. the Gulf Stream) who knows how this will play out….

Feeling lucky, anyone?

Is that a mojito-stirrer a piece of sugar cane?

The weather was crazier than usual in Colombia S.A. when I was there over a week ago with cooler than usual temperatures in Cartagena which is usually steaming hot this time of year, and a lot of unexpected rain in the Coffee Region (Departamento Quindío) when it is not even the rainy season.

A naturalist working as a docent in Jardín Botánico del Quindío which is near Calarca in the Coffee Region related to me in his impeccable English that migratory birds in Colombia have been staying put. Apparently they instinctively knew that the weather in North America was still inhospitable for them. Another heavy snow storm had hit my state of Connecticut while I was down there soaking in the sun when the clouds skedaddled and the mosquitoes bit. Ouch and Itch!

Sunny in Minneapolis today. I am spending it digging out the driveway after the snowplow barricaded us in. Several feet of heavy, wet snow from the avalanche off our metal roof block the upper portion of the driveway.

What a lovely day.

I think you should spend less time praying for your friend and more time downing another watermelon mojito.

For what it’s worth, my collard greens show no sign of going to seed & are putting out huge leaves like it was still late winter. Generally by now they’d be bolting.
My lettuce is acting like we’re a month or more behind, too. Which is fine with me because it’s not turning bitter. Lots more opportunities for old fashioned wilted salad with bacon grease dressing.
