Acadia Mountain, Maine

The reader writes:

Taking a break from hiking for lunch on a lookout on Acadia Mountain in Maine.

This is a different reader from the one who sent the great Maine shot from yesterday. I’m posting these in order received, so it’s a coincidence that I received two wonderful images from Maine in the same week. Go, Maine!

The only thing that would have made that shot better was an Italian from Amato’s, either an Oakhurst Coffee Milk or cold can of Moxie, and a bag of Humpty Dumpty salt and vinegar chips.

That’s on Mount Desert Island. Making me nostalgic! In my years of living in Boston and taking trips up north, Maine grew to become my favorite state in the Union. You got to take the family there sometime, Rod.

About ten years ago I went to Acadia National Park in July. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, and I’ve had the opportunity to travel quite a bit. We went up a mountain on a horse-drawn wagon with a total of about 20 people. So green, so pristine, so gorgeous. In July the blooming flowers are everywhere in Maine – it’s paradise.

Greg,

You must be straight outta Portland! I would add a Whoopie Pie to that list. Go Maine and Peaks Island!

Ben,

Bangor, actually- but the Coffee Pot has been closed a few years, so it’s no longer an option for the sandwich… I suppose you could throw in a Red Hot Dog on the buns you can only get in New England… I’ve never understood why those don’t catch on elsewhere, by the way. They stay together so much better than the style you see in the rest of the country (for those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, see pictures at [2]).

Beautiful view; but water bottled on a South Pacific island where reportedly half the population doesn’t have access to clean water, shipped by freighter to a port on the west coast then trucked to a deli in Maine doesn’t exactly thrill the “porcher” in me.
