You will be happy to learn that our old Boston friend James, who sent us so many wonderful VFYTs from New England, has settled down in old England. This is from him. He writes:

Staying at an old inn around the Lake District National Park and went downstairs to the pub for some needed post-hike comfort food. Steak and ale pie with a pint of Jennings Cumberland ale. In my ravenous state, it could have been frozen from Sainsburys and I would have been satisfied, but fortunately it was great.

If this were America, I would have brought my plate and pint over to the (recently vacated) table next to the roaring fireplace and gotten a better shot—not to mention used my flash and taken photos from multiple angles in full view of everyone else. Alas I haven’t mustered the courage to go full ugly-American in England yet! Old pubs are rarely well-lit, and that presents a VFMT challenge. Yesterday I was in a pub in Scotland that displayed a big sign: “NO HORSE IN OUR HAGGIS”. I was offally tempted to try it šŸ˜‰

The stone wall above looks like it’s made of gyro meat.
