Sanctuary Cities for Christian Bakers?

When lawbreaking is morally progressive, and when it's not

A reader poses an interesting question:

Have you given much thought to the idea that on the Left end of the political spectrum there are 200-300 sanctuary cities that essentially ignore or even (as in the case of SF) defy Federal immigration law and requests from ICE for cooperation in deportation, yet those same people expect the entire nation to follow the new gay marriage rulings and, as in the case of the Oregon bakers, pay heavy fines for running afoul of anti-discrimination laws? Seems a bit hypocritical.

Now, I am not totally against sanctuary cities. I think they are a horrible idea but are in some ways necessary because of our broken immigration system. However, the idea that we have whole cities defying Federal law and Federal agencies tasked with carrying out the law provides a pretty interesting perspective in light of the new reality regarding gay marriage.
