It’s Walker Percy Weekend!

Old friends and good times in the ruins of a Louisiana plantation

Isn’t that something? That’s one of the fun people who came out tonight for drinks in the ruins and gardens of Afton Villa Plantation, where we kicked off the Walker Percy Weekend 2015 with gin fizzes. She made that tote bag especially for the festival. I told her that was bound to be next year’s tee shirt.

It was hot in the Market Hall for registration today, so the ladies in charge drank wine to cool themselves. I would say things went well:

Registration a success!
Registration a success!

It was so great to see so many people from the blog tonight at Afton Villa. There was JonF from Baltimore, and Franklin Evans from Philly, as well as Raskolnik, Bernie, Leslie Fain, Steven Hoffman (who drove in from Indiana!), and others. Mary Pratt Percy Lobdell came with her crew from Covington (if you’re here for the festival, you’ll want to come tomorrow afternoon to hear her tell stories about bourbon, her father, and Shelby Foote at the late afternoon panel about drinking and the Southern writer). Peter Augustine Lawler was there looking smart in a seersucker suit, and … boy am I tired. It’s 1:30 a.m., and I’ve got to be at the courthouse in the morning to introduce Peter and Ralph C. Wood, talking about Flannery O’Connor, Walker Percy, and the Christ-haunted South. Wish you were here!
