Actual conversation with my 12 year old son Matthew tonight:

“What are you watching, Dad?”

“This video that’s supposedly a Herman Cain for President commercial. It’s so crazy it’s hard to tell if it’s real or not.”

“Who’s Herman Cain?”

“He’s a businessman running for the Republican nomination for president.”

“What has he done in politics before?”

“Nothing. He ran a pizza chain.”

“But nothing in politics?”

“No.”

“How can he run for president if he’s never done anything in politics before?”

“It’s a free country.”

“No, seriously. You’re telling me this guy has never been elected to anything — and he wants to be president?”

“That’s right. And he’s doing really well, too.”

“What is — aww, man…” (shakes head, walks away puzzled)

UPDATE: That kooky commercial is for real, the Cain campaign says.
