So, I’m off to the Netherlands for the next week or so. Going to visit an old friend who is battling cancer. I’m not sure how steady my wi-fi connections are going to be in the next 10 days, though I know I will be connecting at least daily (I had better be: I am putting the finishing touches on a big essay about conservatism and the power of story for TAC, and will complete it on the flight over).

Please be patient with the slow pace of approving comments. I’ll get to them between flights here in the US today, but I won’t arrive in Amsterdam until midnight tonight, American time.

Anybody have any recommendations for places to go — especially to eat — in Amsterdam? I’ve been to the city several times — it’s one of my favorite places to walk — but there’s always something new to discover. I won’t be in the city the entire time, but let me know if there’s something I should do, or taste.

I, for one, am glad to be returning to a Netherlands at long last free of the despotic rule of Mad Queen Beatrix, who condemned her enemies to lives of hard labor working in her stroopwafel mines.
