Now I don’t think that the world is flat, or America benefits at all from mass-outsourcing, yet I’d like to suggest—contra Scott  and Leon —that transferring copy-editing and journo jobs to India is not necessarily a bad thing.
The Chinese are another matter. Yet well-educated Indians generally possess an excellent command of English—much greater than that of most Brits or Americans (including journalists, I expect). P G Wodehouse—“the master”, according to the late, great obituarist Hugh Massingberd —is still widely read in the world’s largest democracy. A bit of competition in the international market may help sharpen our prose.
That said, Scott, please don’t outsource my job to India.
