I agree with Daniel Larison that Obama’s recent comments at the AIPAC convention reflected the status quo in Washington on the Middle East. Philip Weiss also points out to minor errors in the speech. And the list of Obama’s foreign policy advisors consists of several lightweights that makes one nostalgic for Madeleine Albright. If, as some reports suggest, the Israeli government is putting pressure on Bush to attack, and if an American and/or an Israeli strike against Iran takes place before November, an October Surprise, it will be interesting to see Obama’s response. He’s damned if he does (criticize the attack) and damned if he doesn’t (criticize it).
