Sarah Palin got it in the news, but I’ve actually been working for the past couple of weeks on an article for TAC about left-communitarian secessionist movements, and next weekend my research is going to take me up to Yreka, CA, the former capital of the late great State of Jefferson. Tyler Cowen linked to some work on the economics of secession yesterday, and Michael Blowhard followed up quickly with a bunch of great links. The Middlebury Institute’s registry of North American separatist organizations is here, and this is the Web site for a forthcoming documentary on Western secessionist movements whose director/producer I really ought to be interviewing.

I feel like an idiot because for a split second I wondered if Michael Blowhard was a real name. I think the possibility was so unbelievably awesome that my mind wanted it to be so.
