Punk’d

I’m told by folks here at Berkeley that this sort of thing has happened to John Yoo before, but it’s nevertheless a joy and a privilege to watch it go down:

  1. Why did Yoo decided to cancel class? He should have instructed the student that if he really wanted to replicate torture he had to hold the pose in silence. Then he could resume his lecture. Yoo’s flight from confrontation gives us a rare glimpse into the character of Bush’s warrior elite.

How on earth did he get hired at Berkley of all places!

  2. If he gets sanctioned by the bar association, would that threaten his tenure status?

  3. I’m surprised that you find this so amusing. The joke’s on Yoo’s students, who pay a ton of money to attend Berkley Law and who lose out on a day of lectures because of this sort of “joke.”

Dunno. I’m sure it would be controversial in any case.

Yes, well I’m slightly more upset that their tuition dollars are paying for them to learn from one of the people principally responsible for the Bush administration’s torture policy.

  5. This raises another question. Who in the long run is more a threat to our way of life, Muslim terrorists, or Yoo’s Berkley Law students?

  6. I don’t find this amusing either. If Berkeley has a problem with John Yoo (and who wouldn’t? I do), then they ought to fire him. If they want to keep him on, then they ought to put security guards around his classroom to keep these sorts out. In any case, this sort of immature activity is completely wrong for addressing the issue and ought to be anathema to any conservative (neo- or otherwise).
