Quote for the Day
John Schwenkler September 3rd, 2008
“Discussing the culture and politics of Trinity is fair game, I guess. But exploiting a family’s source of spiritual nourishment and ridiculing and dismissing someone’s faith journey: not so much. That goes for others seeking God at Trinity, or anywhere else. They didn’t ask for this scrutiny and they deserve a break.” – Andrew Sullivan
That was then, this is now.

I deplore the treatment of Sarah Palin by the MSM. And I am a liberal.
What perplexes me is the rage from so many on the Right towards the Left about Palin’s treatment. The reason I am confused is that whenever the Right complains about the Left’s treatment of Palin they never cite the source of the objectionable material.
Who among the Left is saying these awful things about Palin? Can someone from the Right please name some names. If you can, I’ll condemn that Leftist sentiment. And no a couple liberal bloggers and a Kos diarist doesn’t count (you can find kooks of all political persuasions online).
What I will not do is allow the Right to equate the MSM’s smearing of Palin with the Left. And for pete’s sake, when someone complains about Andrew Sullivan as evidence of the Leftist smears please note that he’s a conservative.
PS Btw, it would have been nice if the Right had the same outrage over Sullivan’s treatment of Hillary Clinton.
Joseph:
Your last point is a fair one, though I for one did think that many of the attacks on HRC got out of control, and there were plenty of conservative commentators who – perhaps cynically, as a way to get to Obama – did stick up for her.
As to the first part: well, you might start with Kerry Howley on Sally Quinn, as well as Jesse Walker on culture war stereotypes. But come on: it’s not just “a couple liberal bloggers and a Kos diarist”, but TONS of(perhaps not so famous) bloggers and COUNTLESS Kos diarists … that there would have been (indeed: was, in the case of Obama) a similar reaction from the loonies on the Right certainly shows that all sides play at this game, but that doesn’t change the fact that the reaction has been unfair.
Or maybe I’m overstating things … I’ll admit that I don’t have loads of sources to cite. If you’re willing to admit that the MSM has been unfair, I’ll hold back on accusing “the Left”.
