Weather of Mass Destruction
When our government was insisting that we go to war with Iraq, I told anyone who would listen that it didn’t make any sense, that Saddam Hussein did not pose any threat to the US and our leaders were simply up to no good. My conservative friends angrily disagreed, almost in unison, declaring that the evidence supplied by the Bush White House concerning WMDs was comprehensive, concrete and that the terror “crisis” was far too dire to entertain any dissent from some blind ignoramus like me.
Now the liberals have their own “crisis.”
Global warming, or to use the latest fashionable phrase, “climate change” has quickly become an article of faith for the Left. Heralding the importance of this week’s Copenhagen Climate Summit, the UK Guardian published the following: “Today 56 newspapers in 45 countries take the unprecedented step of speaking with one voice through a common editorial. We do so because humanity faces a profound emergency.”
This is not the first time the media has aided the scientific community in an effort to warn the world about atmospheric Armageddon. Writes Gary Sutton at Forbes.com: “Many of you are too young to remember, but in 1975 our government pushed ‘the coming ice age’… Random House dutifully printed ‘THE WEATHER CONSPIRACY … coming of the New Ice Age.’ This may be the only book ever written by 18 authors. All 18 lived just a short sled ride from Washington, D.C. Newsweek fell in line and did a cover issue warning us of global cooling on April 28, 1975. And The New York Times, Aug. 14, 1976, reported ‘many signs that Earth may be headed for another ice age.”
56 newspapers in 45 countries can’t be wrong, can they? No more than Newsweek and the New York Times were wrong in the 1970′s, not to mention The National Science Board who also sounded the “ice age” alarm in 1974.
When the now-famous “ClimateGate” story erupted recently, in which it was discovered through hacked email accounts that prominent scientists might have fudged data to support global warming claims or sought to suppress climate change skeptics within their own ranks, the mainstream media was not quick to pick up the story. Read one email from ClimateGate scientist Kevin Trenberth, concerning the failure of computer models, “The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.” Replied fellow scientist Michael Mann “As we all know, this isn’t about truth at all, it’s about plausible deniability.” ClimateGate seemed to suggest that some global warming scientists were more interested in constructing a narrative to support their claims than properly informing the public based on sound data.
The same week Climategate broke, VOA News reported that “The former British ambassador to the United States claims that the Bush administration was looking for a link between the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington, and Saddam Hussein hours after the attacks took place… According to the former British ambassador to the United States, Christopher Meyer, British and American officials were desperately looking for a ‘smoking gun’ that would justify their imminent invasion of Iraq in 2003. ‘We found ourselves scrabbling for the smoking gun, which was another way of saying, ‘It’s not that Saddam has to prove himself innocent, we now bloody well have to prove he’s guilty.”
Would the “experts,” in the lead up to the war in Iraq, intentionally mislead the public or fabricate evidence to advance an agenda? Would the science establishment or the mainstream media suppress pertinent information about climate change that contradicts their agenda?
The alleged authority of “expert” opinion does not hold much sway with me. I do not pretend to know more than government officials, journalists, scientists, economists and other various other sophists and calculators, but I do know that for all their collective wisdom, they are just as often wrong as they are right. Does anyone really believe stimulus and TARP spending has helped the economy, as the “experts” contended? Does anyone really believe the Iraq war had a damn thing to do with terrorism, as government officials still claim?
It is this experience-driven skepticism that prevents me from becoming too worried about so-called global warming. The same liberals who shriek at my doubt, and believe that science is beyond politics when it comes to their sacred issue of climate change, conveniently forget that scientific consensus once told us that racial minorities were intellectually incapable of competing with their white counterparts or that homosexuality was a mental disorder. Oh, but that was just science masquerading as politics, the Left might say. Global warming is different.
And it may be different. Only time will tell. But one need not be an expert of any sort to recognize that for both Left and Right, faith dictates facts and today’s truths often become tomorrow’s fiction. And it is mighty curious that for every new crisis, a massive and expansive government corrective is always the proposed solution.

The science must stand on its own.
In science the burden of proof is on the theory.
The theory must provide the proof.
If the theory makes a prediction, which it must to not simply be a hypothesis, and the prediction is wrong then the theory is discarded.
That is part of the scientific method.
The AGW theory predicts that CO2 causes global warming.
CO2 is higher now then it was in 1998.
Average global temperature has been declining since 1998
The prediction made by the theory is wrong therefore the theory must be discarded.
It is called the scientific method. It only takes one wrong result to discard a theory.
If the oceans are cooler AND the air is cooler AND tehr is more ice at the poles, where did the heat go?
It escaped through the CO2 and into space, since C02 can not block heat.
C02 does not block the movement of energy.

Carbon dioxide absorbs infrared radiation (IR/heat) in only three narrow bands of frequencies, which correspond to wavelengths of 2.7, 4.3 and 15 micrometers (µm), respectively. The percentage absorption of all three wavelengths combined can be very generously estimated at about 8% of the whole IR spectrum, which means that 92% of the “heat” passes right through the atmosphere without being absorbed by CO2.
CO2 molecules are evenly distributed in Earth’s atmosphere and comprise one in every 370 million molecules. Visualize a single red marble one inch in diameter as a molecule of CO2. Now imagine that all other atmospheric gas molecules are white marbles one inch in diameter, and line up all the imaginary marbles (1 Red/370,000,000 White) in a straight line. Your red marbles will be spaced evenly apart every 5,800 miles!
CO2 is not a “dangerous green house gas”. It is a trace gas that is necessary for life. Plants manufacture energy through photosynthesis – a process that takes in CO2 and produces oxygen. CO2 levels and global warming are linked. But the entire theory is based on one “fact”: “Increased CO2 levels lead to warming.” The reality is exactly the other way around: Global warming leads to increased CO2 levels, because a warmer planet encourages plant life to flourish. As plant life becomes abundant herbivores multiply, and as herbivore multiply, carnivores (with more herbivores to eat) multiply. All the additional dead plants decaying in forests, wetlands and oceans, coupled with all the animals exhaling CO2 and expelling methane through digestion and decomposition causes atmospheric CO2 levels to rise – which causes more plants to flourish! Duh…
AGW is a manufactured “religion” built on junk science. It has been used to hijack political movements and steal money from the duped. Now it threatens us all, should our government set policy based on fraud.
The recent EPA pronouncement that CO2 is a “dangerous greenhouse gas that threatens human health” has left me with a serious dilemma. How am I to safely dispose of several cases of Diet Cola containing this dangerous substance, and will the EPA help defray any cleanup costs?

I know this may seem to be “old news”, but it’s far enough after that magic year of 1998 everybody likes to argue about to make it still relevant.

Hey, we’re talking VOLUME here! So it’s 1 red marble in a cube with an approx. 20 meters (60 feet) edge. 5800 miles is really stretching it (pun intended).
