Sic Semper Tyrannis
Tuesday’s election of the new Governor of Virginia is a sign of how much things have improved since the Bubba-Dubya Era came to an end.
Bob McDonnell is the sort of Republican who can be, and is, endorsed by those who supported Mark Warner and the splendid Tim Kaine. Kaine is far more pro-life than Michael Steele. He signed a state law banning embryonic stem cell “research” funding. He signed legislation authorizing a Choose Life license plate. And he helped to pass, and signed into law, America’s first abortion reduction bill, modeled on the 95-10 Initiative of Democrats for Life of America. Any Republican who can be endorsed by his supporters is one of the good ones.
And even if McDonnell did not win, Creigh Deeds is the man who beat Bubba and Mrs. Bubba’s ghastly, racist rabble-rousing bag-carrier. Deeds wants a $10,000 tax credit for businesses that make “job-creating investments”. He wants tougher sanctions against the lenders of subprime mortgages. He was endorsed by the NRA during his 2005 Attorney General run. He voted to make English Virginia’s only official language, to render illegal immigrants ineligible for state and local benefits, and against allowing illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition rates. He is in favor of the death penalty, alas. And he is a bit Green. But he is persuadable on traditional marriage. All in all, a stage towards the return of the Democratic Party that, like healthcare, the Bubbas never delivered.

“Creigh Deeds is the man who beat Bubba and Mrs. Bubba’s ghastly, racist rabble-rousing bag-carrier.”
I really don’t know exactly what you are referring to here, but could we PLEASE stop with all the PC posturing at the American CONSERVATIVE. I was under the naive impression that conservatives don’t throw around the Cultural Marxist and now essentially meaningless r word. It is liberals drop the r word.
Red: are you saying racism doesn’t exist? Why is the word “racist” now meaningless?
McConnell, Deeds. Meh… Both typical, gas-bagging lawyer, career politicians. Now matter who wins, it’s easy to forecast performance in office. I.e., Ineffectual, move food around the plate for 4 years, and then run for something else.
Who cares…?
Red,
Given the context, I should think the racist reference is to Terry McAuliffe, who lost the primary 50-26 to Deeds, but I don’t know what particularly for.
Also, real racism DOES exist, only we should always remind people that a single joke or epithet is usually harmless, while the political “mainstream” elites typically DO use harmful racism (the pinnacle of which is imperial war) when conditions suit them.
As a Virginian, myself, I am not too excited about McDonnell. He wants to abolish the ABC stores that, frankly, cut down on drunkenness.
It certainly is a reference to Terry “Well, you wouldn’t want a black President, would you?” McAuliffe. Not quite his words. But as good as. Any Democrat who beat him must be one of the good ones. Just as any Republican endorsed by allies of Tim Kaine’s must be one of the good ones.
Zac in VA, real racism exists, but the use of racism as an epithet is now meaningless. Does it just mean actual hate or ill-will, or does it mean any non-PC anything less than purist egalitarian thought? Oppose Obama? You’re a racist. Oppose affirmative action? You’re a racist. Think demographic transformation is an important element of the immigration debate? You’re a racist. Cultural Marxism and the use of racism to silence debate is a MUCH bigger problem today than is actual racism.
