If Debbie Schlussel is a conservative, then I’m anything but.
SOVIET ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA* — I think that this one speaks for itself: the wholly uncharitable tone, the irrational Zionism (and concomitant need to label anything smacking of critical judgment of Israel as “anti-Semitism”), referring to Buchanan’s book as “pro-Hitler”, making Novak out to be a self-loathing (former) Jew, the use of “pro-Muslim” as an epithet, and so forth. It’s everything that you could possibly want from a neoconservative wrapped into one funny (but not “Ha, ha”-funny) screed.
An excerpt:
**** UPDATE: One thing I forgot to put in this column, which I’ll add now: Robert Novak desperately wanted to be a WASPy patrician like his writing partner Rowland Evans. But even after he adopted his Jew-hating tone and converted away to Catholicism, Novak lamented that Rowland Evans never socialized with him away from work, never invited him to his fancy parties at his tony Georgetown home. Because, you see, no matter how much Bob Novak hated himself and wanted to get away from being a Jew, his anti-Semitic partner–to whom he pandered and like whom he desperately wanted to be–still saw him as a dirty Jew. Sometimes justice is poetic, indeed.
Oy vey! Requiescat in pace, Bob Novak.
*It’s downright depressing that, as we feared and fought off the “Red Menace”, we so ably mimicked the Bolshevik degradation of the public realm with dreary, soulless buildings, like those here in Crystal City, where I’ve spent the last week.

The sheer tribalism and tone deafness to how one appears to others is breathtaking. From what I saw of him in the National Press Club, Novak could be forbidding and abrasive. He could be funny and warm as well. But to assert that his Catholic faith could only seen as a pathological betrayal of his true identity reveals all one needs to know about Schlussel.
That such a wench could carry the label… what a world we live in.
Ms. Schlussel was a guest on my radio program recently, and to be honest, it went from bad to worst. I regret having even asked her on my program. She is as completely unhinged as any person I have ever had contact with. I consider myself an Uber Conservative, and this woman…She is so far out that she shouldn’t even be considered the Lunatic Fringe.
Sometimes I wonder if Schlussel is some sort of Landover Baptist parody side project, designed to make conservatism look ridiculous. But I’m afraid not.
I always wondered if she might be one of those rabid dog public personas who was actually nice in private. But no, she’s truly a full blown crazy, impossible b*tch. By their commentators, or wanna be commentators, we shall know the neocons.
(Notice she’s even attacking other neocons on the blogosphere. The only thing that will stop her, like Israel, is that she’ll go too far.)
And if Novak acts like Schlussel, I wouldn’t associate with him either.
I like Debbie because she goes after Oprah. She has done a good job of exposing Oprah. She is a interesting person. I like listening to all people’s opinions. She was one of the first people I found on the web going after Oprah. Before the James Frey thing and before her book club controversies and before Oprah endorsed Obama. Made me think and I don’t even care about Oprah. But like Obama she has become a figure who has too much power with certain women. As a man my interest in going after Oprah has been there since she started to get too much attention add that she endorsed Obama and shunned Palin and you got me. Debbie does interesting work exposing the Church of Oprah.
