It’s a big deal that David Letterman is hanging it up next year, but not as big a deal as it used to be. I can’t remember the last time I watched Letterman. In the 1980s and in the early 1990s, he was one of the best things on TV, because you never knew what he was going to do. When he stopped having on guests like Brother Theodore (above), Harvey Pekar (below), and Quentin Crisp (also below), he started to get conventional and boring. I appreciate all the good memories, but I wish I were going to miss him.
