While I believe the Federal/State/Local governments should be slashed and reslashed so as to return to individual liberty and personal responsibility. On the subject of taxation, it is obvious that the current income tax is not constitutional in its application. Courts have ruled that the income tax is allowed but that the 16th amendment granted not new taxation powers. Thus, it must be a tax that is uniform (not apportioned). A sales tax, like that on gasoline is a constitutionally applied tax, it is uniform. That means whether you buy one gallon or 1 million gallons you pay the same tax/gallon. The income tax is not uniform. You can find any number of people who make the same income but who pay different taxes and even rates of tax. That makes the tax unconstitutionally applied and thus illegal. Any sales tax, flat tax, or other tax uniformly applied is constitutional, anything else, unless direct and apportioned isn't.

If a FairTax was fair, it would be worth investigating. The problem is that no matter who is in power, they will always want more power. How to get more power? Raise more money. Hence the problem with every tax system on the planet.
