David Kenner has noticed the video of Santorum making the ridiculous comparison between the West Bank and U.S. possession of New Mexico and Texas, which I discussed previously here. As I have mentioned before, Santorum shows in this exchange that he doesn’t understand U.S. history or the legal status of the territories.

Here is the video:

Santorum’s claim that the West Bank is “legitimately Israeli country” will come as news to the Israeli government and the millions of non-Israelis who live there, and so will his follow-up statement that all people in the West Bank are Israelis. I suppose this is what comes of being enthusiastically “pro-Israel.”

Kenner spells out of the implications of Santorum’s claim:

If the 3 million people of the West Bank are Israeli citizens, they have the right to vote, and will fundamentally reorder the Israeli government. That’s an prospect the Israelis themselves have been trying to avoid, and the reason why they have never annexed the West Bank. Too bad nobody ever told Rick Santorum.

But don’t forget that Santorum is deeply knowledgeable, and foreign policy is his “great strength”.
