Great piece. Mitt Romney would be an eager dupe of warmongering neocons including John Bolton. Rand Paul should be able to see this.

Not sure who comes off as the bigger phony with the endorsement. Romney for his willingness, if not eagerness, to say anything to anybody at any time to grab the brass ring? Or Rand Paul for using libertarian lip service as intellectual cover for an ascent as one more power-hungry pol on the take?
My answer: The rank and filers who convince themselves this party’s leaders have a shred of integrity.

The depressing thing is that this is as good as it’s going to get with Rand Paul. So long as he can hope for a future Republican presidential nomination, he isn’t likely to upset the status quo too much. He’s a good Senator in opposition to a Democratic White House – it’s really easy to oppose spending and foreign wars and civil liberty incursions when the other party is in power, as the Democrats spend the whole Bush Administration proving – but I’ll bet he’s a huge disappointment if and when a Republican wins.
