I don’t know what impact, if any, the interview with Gingrich’s second ex-wife will have on his political fortunes, such as they are. It can’t help a candidate to have a first-hand witness to his enormous hypocrisy speak on the record, but a lot of Gingrich’s social conservative supporters have already taken his infidelities and divorces into account. So it seems unlikely that anyone who already supports Gingrich will abandon him. If they were voting based on character, they wouldn’t have chosen him in the first place. It could kill whatever momentum he might have had coming into this week, and it should negate any boost he gets from Perry’s endorsement this morning. Republicans are faced with an unfortunate predicament entirely of their own making: they can rally behind the Republican Bill Clinton to try to stop Romney, or they can nominate the liar.
