I guess I was thinking primarily of O'Grady in the WSJ and the influence statements like this would have had on mainstream conservative reactions:

"Besides opposition from the Congress, the Supreme Court, the electoral tribunal and the attorney general, the president had also become persona non grata with the Catholic Church and numerous evangelical church leaders. On Thursday evening his own party in Congress sponsored a resolution to investigate whether he is mentally unfit to remain in office."

And NR was pretty quick as wel: http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=Njg4MTU5NzU0OTNkYWZlZjk2ZWZkYzcwNDc0Y2ViMjY=

I'm not sure, Tony. It seems like the media coverage of the coup was largely confused at first. If the administration had made a strong push initially to describe Zelaya as a centrist, the media may well have fallen in line.

"There is also every reason to think that if Obama had taken a diametrically opposed position, embraced the Micheletti government and opposed Zelaya at every turn, we would have never heard the end of his 'coddling' of coup leaders and his 'betrayal' of democratic principles."

That might be pushing your valid point about conservative opposition to Obama's foreign policy too far. Few conservatives (other than Justin Raimondo), especially those of the WSJ variety, would have supported someone that appears in Chavez-style. As you've argued before, the posture you're critiquing would more likely be found in assumptions regarding the relevance of Chavez.

"The administration and its supporters are setting themselves up for a fall, and they open themselves to the jeers of an otherwise hapless opposition that Moscow has played Obama for a fool."

Well said. Even if the discontinuation of missle defense in Poland and the Czech Republic was an acceptable quid pro quo for Russia's cooperation dealing with the Iranian nuclear issue (and I have no reason to beleive it was anything of the sort), it certainly will do nothing to convince China to get on board for another round of sanctions.
